To what extent does behavior in the workplace affect a business?
The workplace of a business matters a lot as the behavior in a workplace could also impact a lot of the
other people that are working there. One of the biggest challenges a person might face is dealing with
some difficult colleagues and managers. Whether it is talking, bullying, or bad management, these
behaviors impact work performance and morale. Behavior in a workplace can impact the way a
workplace functions because it can distract and put stress on other people within the perimeter of the
workplace in a business, because of factors such as sounds and physical behavior. However, behavior
does not always affect work performance in the same way, because sometimes it can also affect someone
directly or in accordance with what is directed to them. These behaviors in a workplace can also be either
positive or negative, which defines personality and work ways and methods consequently which will also
affect the productivity and task output and employee's performance in a general perspective. Furthermore,
behavior in a workplace can either decrease or increase the activity happening in a business due to what
the employees are doing in a place (Ali). The workplace is also a platform where a variety of different
events and actions take place which are also indicated as there are different impacts on the individuals
situated and working in one. The way team members act and interact with one another can affect a
business in many ways such as speed, efficiency, productivity, and other crucial factors in a business
functioning. This is why a lot of businesses make sure to monitor the amount of workflow that is being
put in and also that is why in today’s generation the behavior in a workplace matters a lot to people
because these days a lot of workers do not put in the effort that they need to put in, to help a business
grow financially (“What Is Work Behavior? | BambooHR”). However, some people see behaviors in
the workplace to be more of a negative aspect which is not true at all as it also brings a lot of nice aspects
to the environment for a business. The change in behavior in the workplace also can sometimes encourage
positive attitudes towards everyone and yourself in a workplace which will also definitely result in faster
workflow to lesser distractions (Cloke).

Work behaviors normally refer to the activities being done in an environment and workplace,
and it is known that workplace behaviors can link to a business's performance as a business
would need its workers to have fewer distractions. For a business to perform well it must

compromise unruly behavior and should have well-behaved and experienced employees within
the workplace to ensure a smooth workflow. Employees in a workplace should also attain the
ability to work in a collaborative team environment toward shared goals and should be very
corporative and should be able to work properly with other colleagues no matter what, even if
there is a personal issue between them. Employee morale, productivity and customer service
levels are a high priority in business; therefore, a lot of businesses try to find the best ways
possible to ensure a good workflow and environment withing the workplace area (“Managing
Difficult Employees and Disruptive Behaviors”). Employees who create a bad atmosphere
through bullying, gossiping, or unfriendliness are likely to hurt the motivation of those around
them (Smith, 26 may, 2014) and will demotivate their employees by behaving like that in a
workplace that is supposed to be more positive and professional for work purposes and nothing
negative.

If a workplace has positive and professional behaviors, it will fuel productivity and a business's
status, while a poor and unprofessional environment could lead to lower a business' growth. An
organization requires employees who are not only skilled and well-trained but also who are in
roles that align with their strengths and weaknesses (“What Is Work Behavior? | BambooHR”).
Behavior in a workplace is also studied because it is proven that behavior and environment can
affect the speed and performance of a business and could either slow or speed a business up.
Furthermore, organizational behavior can also affect how employees interact with each other and
everyone they know outside a business and can also affect an employee's mental health
positively or negatively. Some of the key components that behavior in a workplace can affect are
the structure, leadership, communication, motivation, and the culture of a workplace which are
quite crucial parts of growing or building a business. Businesses are normally also persuaded to
act against the negative aspects of behavior taking place in their workplaces. A study conducted
by “PubMed Central” examined the impact of workplace environment on employee task
performance under the role of employee committing achievement-striving abilities in a
workplace and business. Organizational behavior (OB) is otherwise known as the study of how
individuals, groups and organizations interact and the influence they have on each other. Though
it is quite largely used only withing the field of business and management as a way and method
to understand and how to manage groups of people. The reason businesses look to organizational
behavior (OB) is because it helps a great deal to help organizations and to increase the
performance of their employees, while also creatin a positive working atmosphere and
environment. Organizational culture refers to qualities of the workplace itself that influence its
employees whereas organizational behavior refers to the resulting behavior of the people within
it (Crail).

Employee engagement affects about every important aspect of your business, including
profitability, revenue, customer experience, employee turnover and much more (Ryba). It has
already been proven that employees and workers who feel connected and committed to their
organization or business work harder, stay for more time and motivate the rest of the workplace

to do the same. Furthermore, even research shows that 92% of businesses executives believe that
the more engaged an employee is, the better the employee will perform, which will result in
boosting the success of their teams and the outcomes of their organizations. So, understanding
what drives an employee's motivation engagement is key to success. However, when an
employee is not engaged sometimes a business will not prioritize that employee as they do not
believe the employee can do much for the business as the employee would not really be boosting
the business’s performance. Sometimes it also matters about how emotionally invested an
employee is in a business or organization that they are working for. Engaged employees are
typically emotionally stable while more un-engaged employees are not emotionally stable as they
are not as motivated due to the personal things that happens in their Everyday life, and this is
also proven by many studies conducted in the past years by many people. While non engaged
employees are not as emotionally stable, engaged employees are emotionally stable, which was
proven by a study. People are usually more careful than outside work in how they behave around
their teammates and colleagues, as many actions can be intended to be inappropriate, or
harassment ruin the workplace. positive and good work behavior of an individual is proved to
lead to higher performance, productivity and great teamwork skills aswell. OB also includes
increased employee satisfaction, increased customer satisfaction, increased innovation,
productivity and performance, trust between employees and business, better communication,
leadership qualities of employees. Behavior change is normally known to be able to improve
workplace harmony, because workplace harmony creates a comfortable working environment
and aura. It is also essential for creativity, collaboration and staff retention, meaning a business
should keep that a positive outgoing factor of their business. However, this is not always easy to
achieve as some workplaces stress about friction costs and businesses always hold employees of
different personalities, tastes and interests. Furthermore, the behavior changes a business
experience can also increase the profits of a business itself as if the atmosphere is good then the
employees within the workplace will not be distracted and can carry on their everyday work in
the workplace. If businesses want a positive outcome out of their employee's behavior, the
employees first need be trained and taught on how to behave well in a workplace, especially if
they are new to working a full-time job in a business. Employees in a company should be well
motivated, however sometimes that's not the case because some employees in a business could
behave differently from each other which could cause a clash between all employees as maybe
the employees might have a disagreement. If an employee gets demotivated it could be
contagious meaning it could also get the other employees in workplace to get demotivated
aswell.

In conclusion, the behavior in a workplace can dramatically affect a business as businesses need
to have good teamwork happening in their workplaces and to be motivating the employees to
work more and to take their work seriously because that can really change the pace at which a
business is working at. However, businesses are urged to use some techniques that would better

the behavior in the workplace if it is not as good as expected and they should strive to have well-
behaved employees.
